Welcome to Box Barn - a place for people to gather, switch off, and enjoy some proper space together here in Monmouthshire.

We’re Nick and Caroline, and we run this little patch just outside Raglan. Box Barn started as an idea for a relaxed group space and has slowly turned into what many guests now call their favourite large holiday let in South Wales.

We didn’t set out to make anything fancy or formal. We just wanted somewhere that felt welcoming the moment you arrived. Over time it’s grown into a little village of its own, with the main barn for a bit of rustic comfort, the bunkhouse where everyone piles in together, and a couple of glamping yurts for those who like sleeping closer to the stars. The whole place works really well for big group stays because there’s room to be together, but also room to wander off and have a bit of quiet when you need it.

A lot of people tell us Box Barn feels like staying at a friend’s place — just a friend with a hot tub, fire pit, outdoor seating, and a bar that somehow keeps everyone outside chatting long after they meant to go to bed. That’s the sort of experience we want people to have when they book a large holiday let: relaxed, easy, and full of those little moments where everyone forgets about the time.

If you’re wondering what we’re like as hosts, the honest answer is that we’re happiest around food. There’s a proper kitchen, a BBQ, a pizza oven, and the fire pit, all set up for big cooks and long evenings. Most groups end up cooking something memorable while they’re here — either a big family dinner or a simple feast that tastes way better outdoors.

Box Barn tends to attract all sorts: milestone birthdays, multi-generation family weekends, groups of friends who haven’t seen each other in years, walking and cycling groups, and teams looking for space to think. Families love that the kids can roam around without worrying about cars, and adults like that they can sit back a bit. It’s the kind of big group accommodation that feels laid-back rather than organised.

We’re also in a great spot for exploring. Abergavenny is about 15 minutes away, Monmouth about 20, and you’ve got the Black Mountains, Brecon Beacons, castles, vineyards, local pubs, farm shops, and more walks than you could fit into a week. Guests often tell us they planned one or two outings and ended up with a whole list. We make a point of recommending local businesses — small producers, activity guides, and the places we go ourselves.

What started as a simple idea has now become this warm, slightly quirky, very loved large holiday let near Raglan, and we’re genuinely proud of what it’s become. The best part for us is hearing the laughter carrying across the courtyard in the evenings, or seeing families who only get together once in a blue moon making the most of it.
